Helping locally

helping locallyLocal Mission Project:

Angel Food Ministries:

VUMC has a heart for mission and ministry which has been expressed by our support of numerous global, national and local projects. It has long been a dream to establish and maintain a significant local mission project. Over $18,000 has already been saved since 2004 and more continues to be set aside every month.

This dream has become a reality with the launch of Angel Food Ministries at VUMC in July 2008.  AFM is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief in communities throughout the United States.  This new ministry enables us to help people in our community each month by making available high quality, "restaurant grade" food for an amazing $30 per unit.

F.I.S.H.
(Feeding Individuals and Sharing Hope):

Volunteers gather together every Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at the church to make sack meals for families less fortunate than us. From the church, they go to Valencia K-mart, arriving between 7:00 and 7:15 pm, where they find approximately 15 adults and 30-40 children waiting for them behind the store. This is a ministry the whole family can participate in. If you would like to help, join us on Thursdays, or drop off goodies for the sack meals at the church office during the week.

volunteersHomeless Shelter

The Santa Clarita Valley Homeless Shelter operates from November through March. Volunteers can participate as greeters, food servers or overnight hosts. Our church takes responsibility for staffing the shelter for two weeks; however, individuals can volunteer for other days as well.

Youth Prison Ministry

Volunteers help provide incarcerated youths with the option for life changing direction and strength through a personal relationship with God, through study of the Bible and the opportunity to experience the richness of God's Love!. This is accomplished through weekly non-denominational ecumenical Sunday worships and Bible Studies, as well as one-on-one Religious Counseling for all youths who choose to participate.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry is a community based organization which our church supports by collecting canned foods. The food is then distributed to approximately 2000 people per month who are in need. This involvement includes a few meetings and occasional participation in a food collection campaign.

We will be a church that will call people to God and to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ in a real and personal relationship.

We will be a church that will communicate and provide a means to understand the love of God. A place where people will know what it means to meet Jesus Christ.

We will be a church that educates and empowers people to understand that being a Christian is a life change, not an easy solution to life problems or complaints. We will be a church that supports each other in the challenging, ongoing attempt to become what God is calling each person to be.

We will be a church that encourages and assists children, youth and adults in their spiritual growth by providing a variety of opportunities that challenge, uplift and engage them in a lifetime of learning and growing in God's grace and knowledge of the Scriptures. We believe it is our responsibility to provide a means of laying a spiritual foundation for children and youth.

We will be a church that demonstrates and lives as a "priesthood of all believers." A place where committed, impassioned believers are in gift based ministry building up the body of Christ within our church and community.

We will be a church that accepts all who enter our doors, reflects the diversity of our community and demonstrates love for our neighbors and for God in all we do.

We will be a church that actively seeks to assess and respond to the needs of the community. A church that strives to be relevant in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ by reaching out in ministry to the community.
